SD Selects

Since our inception in the spring of 2016, SD Selects has quickly built a reputation as a premier training program in our region.

Our program prioritizes instruction and focus on developing the individual player. We believe this physical and mental development sets them apart. We also provide the opportunity to compete at some of the largest AAA tournaments over the spring and summer season.

Dan Houck (Boyertown, PA) - Dan is currently the Director of Hockey for the Sioux Falls Youth Hockey Association as well as Co-Founder and Director of Hockey for South Dakota Selects Hockey. Coach Houck has been a long time Tier 1 Head Coach while also serving as the Hockey Director of Team Maryland and the DC Selects travel programs.  Dan’s various roles and experiences range from coaching alongside experienced coaches such as Wendy Marco, Skating Coach of the Washington Capitals to instructing those that would develop into All-Stars such as William Nylander.  Dan now spends his time all year long in the Sioux Falls area with his primary goal of STP to bring quality game-transferable habits and patterns to the participating players that they can employ in their upcoming season regardless of where they play.

Bryan Fuss (Edina, Minnesota) grew up playing for the Madison Capitols AAA Tier 1 Program. He was drafted by the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL. He spent 2 years in the USHL before earning a scholarship to play Division I college hockey for Lake Superior State. After four years of college hockey, Bryan began his professional career. Bryan was a lead instructor, Coaching Director and Director of the Minnesota Machine Boys program from 2009-2018 at Minnesota Made Edina, MN.  Bryan took a new position with the Madison Capitols youth Program starting June 2018. He was the head coach for the U15 and U18 boy’s teams. Bryan also was Director of Hockey operations for the Madison Capitols youth program.  After 3 seasons as Head Coach of both the Sioux Falls Power Tier 1 15U and 18U teams, Bryan has continued to support the Sioux Falls Flyers as a skills coach and recently took on a new role as Assistant Coach of Totino-Grace High School in the Minneapolis Metro area.

Shaq Merasty (Winnipeg MB) - Shaq was born in Thompson, Manitoba.  As Shaq moved through youth hockey beginning at a young age, he left home to play his teenage years for the Manitoba AAA midget program. Shaq made the jump to the MJHL’s Portage Terriers from 2009-2012. During his time in Portage Shaq was crowned a back to back Turnbull cup champion (2011,2012) while also winning the 2011 ANAVET cup. Shaq’s teams attended the RBC cup in 2011 and 2012 known as Canada’s national junior “A” tourney.  From there he attended NCAA Division 3 Adrian College, playing one season for the bulldogs while winning the division 3 rookie of the year and being awarded all American Honors.  After completing his University playing career at Manitoba for the University of Manitoba (U Sports) he made the jump to the professional ranks and played 3 seasons from 2017-2020 in the ECHL. In the summer of 2020 Shaq made the move to Sioux Falls and began his coaching career with the Sioux Falls Power. Shaq made the smooth transition from playing to coaching and has recently taken on a roll coaching with the Sioux Falls Flyers as he continues to enjoy teaching the game every day.

Ben Prisbe (Sioux Falls, SD) - Coach Prisbe is currently in his fourth season as head coach of the Sioux Falls Flyers Varsity 1 team. In his first season, he led the Flyers to a 17-3 record and a South Dakota State League Championship. Ben has also been a member of the Team South Dakota coaching staff for multiple years which included a U-14 tier 2 National Championship in 2022.

Ben, a native of Sioux Falls, played youth hockey for the Flyers. He was named 1st Team All-State Defenseman honors in his senior year with the Flyers in 2015. He went on to play collegiate golf at the University of Sioux Falls and graduated from USF in 2020. He currently serves as Assistant Coach for the men’s and women's golf programs at USF, but is soon moving into his new role of Head Coach for the first ever Augustana University, ACHA Men’s and Women’s Hockey Teams.
